CASTEL DI LEGO ORO
EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL |
This magnificent olive oil is produced by Sebastiano
Galioto in the southeastern part of Sicily. The groves sourced
for the oil range in height to over a thousand feet above sea
level, creating perfect conditions for the cultivation and
growth of several species of olives indigenous to the area.
Chemical fertilizers and pesticides are avoided. After
harvesting by hand, the olives are pressed by a traditional
stone press and bottled without filtration. The oil shows an
intense and powerful aroma, a greenish/yellow color with
superb flavors and a bit of a bite at the back of the throat,
which describes the youth and freshness of the oil. With some
time in the bottle, the oil takes on a more mellow character
without losing its intensity and grip. Voted as one of Italy’s
best ten olive oils by “Slow Foods” it will truly enhance any
dish or salad.

Styrian Pumpkin Seed Oil |
Our Austrian pumpkin seed oil comes from Styria, a province of Austria located near Italy and
Slovenia. After the harvest between September and October, the
pumpkin seeds are dried and then crushed with water and salt,
which aids in the separation of fat and protein. The seeds are
then roasted until the water has evaporated. Finally the seed
mass is pressed resulting in this unique and healthful oil. It
takes more than five pounds of roasted seeds to produce a
liter of oil, the equivalent of seeds from about 35
pumpkins.
Austrian pumpkinseed oil is one of the
healthiest oils because it is highly mono-unsaturated and
contains Vitamins E, B1, B6 and high concentrations of
Vitamins A, C and D. Studies in Austria have supported the
claim that it is effective in the treatment of prostate
problems and beneficial in reducing cholesterol. Pumpkinseed
oil is sensitive to heat and should not be used for frying or
sautéing at high temperatures. Its limit lies around 185
degrees Fahrenheit.
